Custom ROM for X500+

leave a comment »

I’ve been using custom ROM for my WM phone for more than half a year. It was the only reasonable ROM by KVA with WM6.1. It was exceptionally good also but KVA stopped updating it long time ago. Lorbas took over and produced a lot of versions. Earlier ones were not that far from KVA’s, we (community) were trying to fix many small issues and bugs but the latest 2.4 is a different story. It’s complete, fast and reliable. Read the rest of this entry »

Restore/fix dial skin in WM6

with one comment

Yesterday I’ve downloaded some dial skins for my WM6 phone and one of them turned out to be QVGA. It was a mess and I couldn’t uninstall it or overwrite with another one, probably because the file was locked in use. Before I gave up and reinstalled my OS I’ve searched through the registry. Looking for the name of the skin turned out results pointing at phcan(name).dll files.

Eten X500+ yearly review

with 2 comments

Well, I’ve promised to write this review half a year ago but better now than never… right? Currently the device is quite old and it even has its successor – X650 (which is basically all the same), however X500+ is still a very good choice, prices go down and it has a solid position on the market. Here is a comprehensive review of X500+ which points out all the features, functions, fancy stuff, etc so I want duplicate it. I’ll focus only on most important issues after a year spent with the device in my pocket.

My mobile software selection

with 2 comments

This was supposed to be ready long time ago… well it is now. This is a selection of my must have freeware software which was tested during many months and proved to be reliable, fast, small and yet very powerful. One of my favorite futures is that you don’t need to install most of them every time you hard reset. Store them like your documents and use when needed (you don’t use them every day). Just copy .exe to your SD once and run via file explorer. You can always add a shortcut if you need.

Windows Mobile alternative?

with 3 comments

My three cents to the discussion.

I’m not so sure how good that would be right now. WM is a factory standard and mobile devices boom just begun! Only recently we (and other brands users) made a huge step forward in customizing WM ROMs to a specific device, to make it work as good as it can, without flaws and… check this out, it works! But what is best is that all third party apps work, professional and freeware, across all different devices. There are no compatibility issues and everybody develops apps for the same platform which I would point as most important. You just download a piece of software for WM and it has to work.

Mobile web browsing

with 2 comments

Mozilla just released their newest Firefox browser 3.0 RC1 buit. It is still intended mainly for developers though and should not be considered as final but it’s out of Beta status now. If you have Beta 5 with autoupdate on, you should already have RC1 today. Looks and works really fine and the changes are nice too. Here is the list.

What about mobile world? Not quite brilliant… I can’t wait to see Firefox Mobile which should be available next year. It still has a long way to go but looks very promising, as its goal is to provide full desktop experience on mobile devices, with a stunning finger friendly interface.
