Custom ROM for X500+

leave a comment »

I’ve been using custom ROM for my WM phone for more than half a year. It was the only reasonable ROM by KVA with WM6.1. It was exceptionally good also but KVA stopped updating it long time ago. Lorbas took over and produced a lot of versions. Earlier ones were not that far from KVA’s, we (community) were trying to fix many small issues and bugs but the latest 2.4 is a different story. It’s complete, fast and reliable. Read the rest of this entry »

Eten X500+ yearly review

with 2 comments

Well, I’ve promised to write this review half a year ago but better now than never… right? Currently the device is quite old and it even has its successor – X650 (which is basically all the same), however X500+ is still a very good choice, prices go down and it has a solid position on the market. Here is a comprehensive review of X500+ which points out all the features, functions, fancy stuff, etc so I want duplicate it. I’ll focus only on most important issues after a year spent with the device in my pocket.

How to update ROM?

with 8 comments

Probably you think that upgrading ROM is a very serious thing but no, you’re wrong. Please only remember that you can void your warranty as usually this means flashing with a different region or even an unofficial, completely unsupported by the manufacturer ROM. However the device want let you to it easily as it has to be unlocked first. Normally you can only update with official Eten versions intended for your device (region, language etc) and the bad thing is that there aren’t too many of these unless you have WWE (World Wide English – basic ROM) … Another important thing is to always update from SD card as this is the safest possible way!

Blog information: Office in my pocket

with one comment

Some people know me from Eten forum and appreciate my work in understanding, optimizing and getting most of our mobile devices. Thanks to them and for them I made this blog! I want to gather in one place everything that I’ve learned and discovered about my device. I want to help especially beginners, who can’t find those information in Eten forums (which recently exploded as ROM cooking became as simple as… cooking). I would also like to pay my debt to the society, which helped me a lot and allowed to be a part of one of the greatest internet community I’ve ever encountered.

Please keep in mind that most of knowledge here can be applied only to Eten Glofiish X500+, however you will see some general Windows Mobile tips too. My father owns Mio 560 and uses it only as GPS and to Skype over WiFi, so from time to time I can have bits of comparison. My old Compaq Aero 1550 doesn’t count. If you would like to know more about how I use my device, read the review of my X500+ and software selection posts.
